The Urge to Splurge

Posted on: December 20, 2010

I am currently working on an article regarding the American urge to splurge. Many of us are overspending to the point of great detriment. Even in the midst of an economic recession, Americans are spending all that they have or more than they have.

What are the driving factors behind this phenomenon? Why do people overspend regardless of the issues we are currently dealing with?

In doing the research, I have run across many interesting facts and ideas. We are all part of the social and economic structure. Each one of us affects and is affected by the system that we live in. The market economy has had a major impact on our way of life. We are constantly pushed to spend money and buy goods and services. This is not a problem in itself. The problem is when it gets out of control and puts us in deep doo-doo.

As with anything, we need to maintain a balance. By keeping a balance in our own lives, we will be able to help the rest of the system get balanced.
