Illness as a Meditation

When you are affected by an illness, whether it is temporary or chronic, it is difficult to have peace of mind.
Discomfort and pain are overriding feelings that rack our bodies and engulf our minds. Depending on the degree of discomfort or pain, it can be difficult to do anything but feel awful.
All one wishes, is for the suffering to stop.
Yet, somewhere in the midst of this agony, you still have consciousness and the ability to observe what is happening.
Focusing on a return to equilibrium is a challenging process. It takes far more effort to be patient, concentrate on your breathing, practice mindfulness, and allow yourself to let go and relax.
But, wow, if you can do this, what a great achievement!
