Everyday Consciousness

Posted on: January 16, 2015

There is an old Zen proverb that tells us, “Before enlightenment, chop wood carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood carry water.”

This means that every time you achieve a certain level of awareness, you must continue to participate in the activities of ordinary, daily life.

Life does not become more amazing by increasing mindfulness, because it already is amazing. We just become more conscious of how amazing it actually is.

Everyday life is a wonderful existence in a wonderful world.
